Shuttle Interior
A seat was made by cutting sheet styrene panels to shape and glueing them together. Epoxy putty was blended into the inner corners and when dry, the entire model and all corners were sanded smooth.
The seat was primered and spot putty was applied. The model was resanded and seams lines checked for splits, cracks and other imperfections. The chair base was made by heating sheet styrene and bending it to shape. A large hole was drilled into the sides of the base and a dowel was cut to shape for the seat's center pivot.
The seat and pivot dowel were primered.
The parts are dry fit and photographed here with a seat from the AMT/Ertl kit for comparison.
A vac-form mold was made for the seat and a test copy made.

Seven seats were pulled from the vac-form mold. The base and pivot were molded and resin castings were made.
