These and other buildings were photographed from dozens of different angles...
...against green, white, and black backgrounds.
These images were used as elements in a digital matte painting.
They were rescaled, recolored, and 'damaged' in the computer to simulate the destroyed starbase.
Several parts from a 1/72 scale Space Shuttle kit and even the Dilithium Chamber from the Engineering model were also used as buildings.
Most of the smaller parts and antennas were interchangable to make different buildings out of the same base structures. All building elements are shown here.
